To consider

From 1st January 2023, a tourist tax of RM 10 per room per night is applied to all foreign guests. This tax is not included in the room rate and must be paid upon check-in. Guests with a valid Malaysian Identity Card or valid permanent residents MY PR Card are exempted. From March to October, there are 2 to 4 ferries to Tioman Island from Mersing. The schedule is only available 1 month in advance.

During the monsoon season, ferry operations may be cancelled by the Marine Department due to poor weather conditions.

We very much enjoyed our stay here as a treat for a couple backpacking
We stayed in a room by the pool with two double beds. Pool closed between 7pm-9am which was good for reduced noise. Really enjoyed buffet breakfast, the swimming pool and the amazing view over a small pond where there was lots of monitor lizards (similar to komodo dragons) and lots of monkeys. Beer was inexpensive as the island is duty free (7MR for 500ml). Staff were friendly and very polite. We absolutely loved snorkeling for a full day going to 4 different spots (90MR each). It was great value for money, however strongly recommended that you invest in your own goggles and snorkel as the hotel ones steamed up constantly, or worse, filled up with sea water. We also enjoyed the Crystal kayak to ease us in to being in the sea (80MR for 2people). The activities were very good value for money.
Our bathroom was unfortunately really smelly- not sure if it was drains or generally not clean. We ordered food on a special occasion (as it is more pricey than other places nearby) and our squid was disappointing as it was very overcooked. If you are paying more you expect the food to be better. The only one other thing was; having one or two water cooler stations would have been good to reduce the plastic consumption in Paya. There was small containers of lemon water at the reception but only with small glasses next to it. Somewhere to fill up our own bottles is surely better for the environment we are trying to protect in Tioman.
